Excellent article for students to read on effective ways to take notes in class

Classroom Supply List: Due Thursday, Jan. 13
One 1" - 11/2" three-ring binder with plenty of loose-leaf paper (may be shared with another class as long as all history work is kept together in one section)
A highlighter
One set of ear buds (for listening to content-related videos during class)
One package of wet wipes OR box of tissue
Students are also expected to have a pencil or blue or black ink pen each day.
I would also recommend, though it is not required, the purchase of an external mouse. This tool will make the use of Chromebooks in all of their classes Sooooooo very much easier. They can be purchased at Walmart for $10-$20 depending on the type you get. www.walmart.com/ip/Verbatim-Silent-Wireless-Blue-LED-Mouse-Graphite/837324875

Mrs. Fulton's Classroom Rules and Procedures
I will do my best to enforce all of the rules established by the Louisville Municipal School District as outlined in the Student Handbook. This includes, but is not limited to, tardies (including the "Ballew rule"), make-up work (unexcused absences = 0), and dress code. Since all of that is outlined for you in the handbook, I will not address them below.
1. Students are expected to come into the classroom with the proper demeanor and maintain that demeanor throughout the class period.
2. Students are expected to be on task from bell to bell. No loitering in the hallway between classes. Come in, get your book/notebook/chromebook out and get started on your bellwork assignment. If I have to ask you to be seated or to get started on your bellwork you will be "dinged" in Dojo for "Off Task"
3. All work to be handed in must be completed on loose-leaf paper. Any and every assignment turned in on spiral paper will have 10 points deducted during the first nine-weeks and 20 points deducted during the second nine-weeks. Any assignment with no name will have 10 points deducted. This includes tests. No red or pink ink may be used!
4. Each student will be allowed three bathroom passes per nine weeks. School policy mandates that student must have teacher hall pass in order to leave classroom. The student will carry the hall pass with him/her.
If a student abuses the pass by staying gone too long or going somewhere other than where he/she stated, their remaining passes will be revoked.
Any student who does not use his/her passes at all during a nine-weeks grading period will receive an extra 100 for a daily grade for each pass not used.
YOU decide how to use your passes and when they are all used, you will NOT be allowed to leave the room to go to the restroom.
If you have a medical condition that requires you to go to the restroom more often, I must be notified from the school office or by a copy of the note from your doctor. You will still have to use your extra 100s, however.
LHS administration has implemented a 20/20 rule on hall passes. No student may leave the classroom for any reason during the first 20 minutes of class or the last 20 minutes of class. No exceptions!
5. No student will be allowed to leave my class to go to another teacher's class for any reason unless it has been previously arranged. Students will have to use one of their pass opportunities in order to go or stay with the other teacher (for example, to work on homecoming, prom, attend Vo-tech cookout or whatever the case may be). If the student has already used all of their passes for that nine weeks, has excessive absences, or below a 70 in this class, permission will not be granted.
If another teacher or office personnel keeps a student after the bell, the teacher/office must write a pass for the student. Otherwise, the student will be counted as tardy. You will NOT be allowed to return for a tardy slip.
6. Grades: Most daily grades (classwork, homework, etc.) are weighted as one and averaged together. Quizzes are weighted as two daily grades. The lowest daily grade each nine weeks will be dropped.
Tests are weighted as three daily grades. I NEVER EVER drop a test grade. Bonus or extra credit points which can be added to any test grade will come primarily from Classdojo . Only very limited additional opportunities for extra credit points will be offered throughout the course. Please take advantage of these opportunities when they are offered! Additional extra credit will NOT be given upon student request.
Please remember - extra credit only makes a small difference in a student's overall average. It is the student's day-to-day work and effort that will determine whether he/she passes or fails the course.
Side Note: Most students who fail this course as well as those who barely pass with only a D average, also fail the U. S. History Subject Area Test
administered at the end of the semester.
It is not difficult to earn a C or B in this class.
It is difficult to earn an A in this class as the rigor of U. S. History is greater than that of any other history class you have probably taken (unless you
took accelerated World History). Most students who finish the year with an A also score advanced on the U. S. History Subject Area Test and help our school improve its state-accreditation level.
7. Late Work: I will accept any assignment one day late (unless you have been told otherwise when the assignment was made.) No assignments will be accepted more than one day late unless there are extenuating circumstances (extended excused absence, for example) or with administrative permission.
Absolutely no assignments will be accepted after we have tested on that unit.
Let me be clear: Homework and classwork assignments are turned in when they are called for. The only exceptions are excused absences and an IEP that says you have extended time.
Please do your own work and avoid plagiarism.
It is the student's responsibility to see me immediately upon your return to school following an absence to obtain the assignment(s).
Make-Up Tests: If you must make up a test, it will NOT be done within your regular assigned block. We have too much information to cover for a student to miss class and then miss content a second day to make up a test. See me to arrange to make up your test during one of the following times: Homeroom 7:20-7:45, during my 4th block planning period, or after school. If you do not arrive by 7:20 a.m. to take a test, you will not have time to complete it and it will not be given to you.
8. A word about cellphones This classroom is equipped with a Chromecart. Therefore, phones will not be needed for educational purposes and should not be used during class. This also includes Smart Watches.
Your cell phone will be out of sight at all times . I will not ask you to put it away. A violation of this policy will result in (1) confiscation OR (2) immediate referral to the office.
9. Mrs. Fulton's Five Commandments: No food or snacks in the classroom. No drinks in the classroom. No inappropriate language in the classroom. No sleeping. No dress code violations. NO EXCEPTIONS!
10. Remember the things you were taught in elementary school: bring all of your stuff with you to class and take it with you when you leave; keep your hands to yourself and don't bother other people's things; be polite and respectful; pass your papers in quickly when called for and DO YOUR OWN WORK.
11. Finally, act your age (which is neither 10 nor 21) and do your best. Do NOT tell me you can't or don't know how when you haven't even had time to read the directions or try!
Go Be Great! Why Not Us?
